Operators of the state's Do Not Call List for telemarketers are gearing up for a flood of new sign-ups.

The state budget repair bill signed by the Governor last week includes a provision that expands Wisconsin's Do Not Call List to include cell phones. Glen Loyd with the state's Consumer Protection office expects the new feature to be in high demand, given the success of the program for regular phone lines. Over 1.1 million Wisconsin numbers are already registered on the list.

However, Loyd is cautioning consumers to wait awhile before signing their cell phone numbers up. He says the agency still needs a few weeks to prepare before it can begin processing and accepting those numbers. Loyd says cell phone users should wait for an official announcement from DATCP before attempting to add their number to the registry.
