The state Department of Justice has announced plans to reorganize the Division of Criminal Investigation, moving more decision-making power to local field offices.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says it allows agents to do more with state resources by getting more agents out on the streets by reducing the amount of supervisory work that's done in Madison. The plan will move supervisors out into field offices run by the Department.

Van Hollen says the restructuring allows for better communication with local law enforcement agencies because the chain of command will be directly present, rather than have to run things back through Madison.

Under the plan, no supervisors are being fired. Van Hollen says the change puts those agents out in the field, and makes the agency less top heavy.

Van Hollen says the reorganization makes the DCI more efficient and effective.
