The DOT changed the color of specialty license plates for veterans and they don't like it.
Many veterans are surprised to discover the new license plates they're getting in the mail are no longer red-white and blue. They're white with black letters and a decal noting their veteran status.
But Steve Lawrence, the Adjutant Quartermaster for the Wisconsin VFW says they now look like many other specialty plates. Like the UW plate or the endangered species plate.
And Lawrence is hearing from some angry fellow vets who feel since they fought for their country they deserve some recognition that will at least stand out. Besides, Lawrence says, veterans pay extra for those plates why shouldn't they have the ones they want.
One lawmaker has introduced a bill to make DOT go back to the red-white and blue plates.
