Charges have been filed in the death of a Hmong hunter in northern Wisconsin. Marinette County District Attorney Brent DeBord detailed the criminal complaint containing allegations against 28 year-old James Nichols, in connection with the death of 30 year-old Cha Vang. who was shot once with a shotgun, and stabbed six times. DeBord said that Nichols initially gave conflicting statements to deputies, but ultimately stated that he fired at and stabbed Vang.
The two men apparently encountered one another while hunting earlier this month on a wildlife refuge near Peshtigo. Nichols is charged as a habitual criminal with first-degree intentional homicide while armed, hiding a corpse and being a felon in possession of a firearm in the death of Vang, a Hmong immigrant who did not speak English. D.A. DeBord did not take questions from reporters after reading his statement.
