Plenty of drivers took advantage of a special gasoline promotion Tuesday in Rib Mountain. Americans For Prosperity sponsored the event with Mount View Mobil that allowed the first 300 cars through the station to buy gas at $1.84 per gallon.

The move was meant to highlight what AFP argues are the failed policies of President Obama. The price charged to customers is the same as what a gallon of gas cost the day Obama took office.

Mt. View Mobil owner Tim Murphy says the event went quickly and smoothly, with about 300 cars moving through in just over two hours. Murphy says they made advance plans with local officials to help the event run safely and reduced the impact to traffic on nearby streets.

AFP Wisconsin Director Luke Hilgemann says several people told them at the pumps how much they appreciate this chance to save money. He says they offered those taking advantage of the cheap gas a petition to sign, urging politicians to abandon present policies that don’t work. About half of the people going through the line signed it.

Overall, about 3,000 gallons of fuel was sold during the promotion.
