Dodge County's 911 operators fielded quite a few calls Monday night from residents reporting a fire at Columbus Chemical Industries.

Some callers were naturally upset or fearful, with panic clear in their voice as they tried to describe the scene to dispatchers.

One caller was pulling up to the plant when he called, where he described the flames.

No one was seriously hurt in the fire, but about 150 adjacent residents voluntarily evacuated their homes. Authorities also used a reverse 911 system to notify area residents that they should stay inside and close their doors and windows while smoke from the fire filtered through the air.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

KFIZ's Bob Nelson contributed this report.
