The Wisconsin Wildlife Federation has appealed a decision to close a number of road in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

The Federation's George Meyer says over 2,300 miles of road would be closed down when the "travel management plan" is implemented in January. Meyer did not think there was adequate feedback from sportsmen and women, since no public hearings were held outside of the area. He says that denied many people who use the forest a chance to speak against the plan.

Hunters can appeal to keep particular roads open, but Meyer says it is impossible to know in advance where a mobile species may go during a hunt. He was also concerned about impacts to disabled hunters.

Meyer says an informal resolution meeting will be held between the Forest Service and the Federation to try to reach a compromise. If no resolution is reached, the appeal goes to the Regional Forest Service Director in Milwaukee for review.
