Janesville may have to contend with a leadership vacuum as the city contends with the General Motors plant closure. Ater conducting second interviews for two city manager candidates, it may be months before the Janesville City Council picks a new city manager. Council President Amy Loasching said the council had certain answers they wanted after the first round of interviews. "I think that we're hoping that one of them would say something that would put us all at ease," said Loasching. "That didn't happen."
Loasching said there aren't any concerns about a lack of a city manager if the council does not make a selection by the time current manager Steve Sheiffer retires, September 5th. The possibility of an interim manager will be considered during a separate discussion. Loasching said the city's contract with a search consultant allows for more than one search, so the city won't spend additional money on a new search. The council will meet with the consultant next month to review candidate options.
