Nick CollinsIn an effort towards securing a long term deal with the Green Bay Packers, safety Nick Collins took himself off of the free agent market yesterday by signing a 1-year, $3.3-million qualifying offer.

Collins and his agent called it a good faith effort, with the thought of trying to come to terms on a long-term deal in mind.

Agent Alan Herman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Collins has a desire to stay with the Packers and to take part in the off-season program.  Herman said, “Nick really likes it in Green Bay and wants to stay there.  Hopefully, this will help us finalize a deal as we move forward.”

Collins was a Pro Bowl starter this past season, his second straight Pro Bowl appearance.  He has recorded 13 interceptions over the last two NFL seasons.
