The CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Paul Jadin says the agency is in the process of scaling down its duties.

During the first meeting of the WEDC Board Wednesday, he says the department is a “little distracted” as it has not yet assumed its role of focusing solely on economic development. Jadin adds they are in the process of shifting regulatory and safety inspection duties to other state agencies.

Jadin says their plan is to keep businesses in Wisconsin, help them grow, then draw new companies here.

The meeting involved ironing out details of any new organization including discussion of bylaws and personnel policy.

The board consists of Governor Walker as Chairman, elected officials, as well as appointees from the public and private sector.

During opening remarks Gov. Walker plugged Wisconsin’s business climate so far under his administration. He talks of a survey of 500 CEOs by Chief Executive Magazine ranking Wisconsin 24th in states to do business in, compared to last year’s low ranking of 41st.

The Governor cites 24,000 private sector jobs have been created in the state since the first of the year.
