With supporters of legislation to legalize carrying concealed weapons set to take control at the Capitol in January, gun foes in the Badger State are wary.

Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort director Jeri Bonavia says there have already been clear signals from Republicans that they plan to pursue the issue. Although, she argues it’s something the people of Wisconsin have made clear they aren’t interested in seeing happen. Governor Jim Doyle twice vetoed concealed-carry bills that cleared the Legislature.

Advocates of concealed carry disagree, and say it’s time Wisconsin joins the 48 other states that allow guns to be tucked in a shoulder holster or purse.

The new Republican majority in the Legislature is expected to pass a bill, and Governor-elect Scott Walker has said he will sign the measure.
