A not so subtle reminder asks state budget negotiators to protect women's health. The problem, according to Lon Newman with the Wisconsin Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association , is funding cuts contained in the Assembly Republican version of the state budget. Newman says there's also a GOP budget provision which would prevent the Department of Health and Family Services from contracting family planning to private entities, such as Planned Parenthood. Newman's organization sent each member of the budget conference committee a wrapped condom, urging them to "Play it Safe" by adequately funding health care for women. The conference committee meets again Wednesday, to try and resolve the differences between the Senate and Assembly versions of the budget.
