The US Senate and House both approved the Navy’s new Littoral Combat Ship plan Tuesday.  So pending the President’s signature that means ten new Littoral Combat Ships will be built at Marinette Marine and another ten will be built at a competing shipyard in Alabama.

Steve Kagen (D-Appleton) says the LCS program will be the biggest economic stimulant in the region’s history. “The contract for LCS will transform all of northeast Wisconsin into not just a world class shipbuilding center but also a world class manufacturing location.”

The new LCS work would create an additional 1,000 jobs at Marinette Marine and support thousands more across the states of Wisconsin and Michigan.
