Approximately 180 county officials from around the state are set to gather in the capitol city for the Wisconsin Counties Association’s annual Legislative Exchange.

“Many people from various walks of county life gather together in Madison to learn about what is occurring in the capitol, talk about budget issues, talk about challenges, and also share solutions that they’ve experienced in their individual counties.” The group’s executive director, Mark O’Connell, says Governor Walker’s Administration will be well represented. Department of Administration Secretary Mike Huebsch will be there, along with seven agency secretaries. Also, Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson will attend.

O’Connell says leaders of the Senate and Assembly are sure to engage in interesting conversation during the legislative round table. “I expect an insightful and perhaps even sometimes spirited conversation.”

There will be a legislative reception when lawmakers and county officials can interact. “So that we might discuss some of the challenges and understand how the various budget approaches that are being discussed would affect county government and the citizens of our state.”

O’Connell says the public is more than welcome to stop by. The WCA will hold the 2011 WCA Legislative Exchange February 8-9 at the Madison Concourse Hotel in Madison.
