The Waukesha County District Attorney’s office confirmed Wednesday that charges of sexual assault against state Representative Bill Kramer are under review. Waukesha Now reported that the charges against the Republican lawmaker were referred to District Attorney Brad Schimel by the Muskego Police Department.

“It will be reviewed quickly, but I have no way of knowing whether or not any charge will be issued, nor can I say whether there might be any further investigation required, so I could not predict a timeline at this point,” Schimel said in an email. The allegations are being reviewed by a deputy district attorney.

Kramer, who filed paperwork this week announcing his intention not to run for reelection next November, was removed as Assembly majority leader earlier this month in the wake of accusations that he sexually harassed one woman and inappropriately touched another while attending an event in Washington, D.C.

Kramer checked himself into a treatment center shortly after the accusations came to light and has not been seen publicly since.
