The Special Committee on Strengthening Wisconsin Families meets today, talking about, well, strengthening Wisconsin families.
Peter Kerr , Communications Director of Milwaukee Fatherhood Collaborative, has heard from both Democrats and Republicans in the legislature who agree with the intentions of this bill, which aims to keep both parents in a child's life, not just the mother.
Kerr says the standard "cookie cutter" response of "every second weekend" for the father isn't good enough. He says fathers get a pretty raw deal in what he calls "the meat grinder: Family Court of Wisconsin." Representative Don Pridemore has been pushing his legislation that aims to equal physical placement of children to the highest degree possible. Kerr says it's time to get it done.
Kerr, who'll be giving a presentation on 50/50 placement to the Committee, says Americans need to stand up and say they believe in equality, in families and in respect.
NOTE: Meeting is Monday, August 20, 2007 at 10:00am in room 411 South at the State Capitol. Rep. Steve Kestell, Chair.
