Doug Davis continued his struggles to start the season, but fortunately for him, the Brewers won their game against Washington anyway.
After being blanked in Washington on Saturday, the Milwaukee Brewers scored 10-runs in the first inning, staking Davis to a big lead before he even took the mound. But Davis couldn’t use the big lead to his advantage and was pulled from the game after 4 2/3 innings. With a 10-0 lead, Davis couldn’t hang around long enough to secure a win.

That win went to Claudio Vargas, who pitched two innings of relief to pick up the win.
In 4 2/3 innings, Davis allowed 5 runs on 11 hits and allowed the Nationals to climb back into the game.
Offensively, the Brewers sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning and capped off their 10-run rally with a Craig Counsell grand slam home run. It’s the first homer of the season for Counsell and the 3rd grand slam of his career.

The Brewers also got some defensive help from centerfielder Carlos Gomez. He made a diving catch in center field, then gunned down a runner at the plate in the 7th.
The Brewers salvaged the final game after dropping the first two in the series. Today is an off day with a 3-game series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh starting on Tuesday night.
