Long time Wisconsin Congressman Dave Obey faced criticism on several fronts during a debate Tuesday night in the state's 7th Congressional District.
Republican challenger Dan Mielke attacked the Democrat for his vote on a $700 billion dollar financial rescue plan, saying that spending and borrowing more will not fix the problem. But Obey said Congress had to act, or else risk a national recession.
The two candidates also sparred over the war in Iraq. Mielke called Obey a traitor for opposing the war and supporting a troop withdrawal timetable. Obey said he's supported funding for troops but also wants to get them out of what he calls quote "a dumb war."
Mielke also said that Obey has served too long in Washington, having been in Congress since 1969. Obey said he's been an agent of change since he walked into the building.
