A push for higher UW faculty pay meets resistance at the Capitol.

UW-Madison Regent David Walsh says faculty members are paid 10-percent less than their peers at comparable universities, and there's a need to close that gap.

However, State Representative Nass, a past chair of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities, says it's more of the same. Nass says the UW just doesn't get it that the state is broke, and continues to ask for more money every two years.

Regent Walsh says, given resistance at the Capitol, the UW needs to find new ways to sell lawmakers on increasing pay. He says it's needed due to increasing problems of retaining and recruiting quality faculty members.
