The final County Deer Advisory Council meetings of 2014 will be held this month in each of Wisconsin’s 72 counties.
When council members meet, they’ll talk about various impacts of deer in that region, hunters’ concerns, and a “population objective” for their county.
“Basically that objective is to increase the deer population, decrease it, or maintain it where it currently is. They are now in the process of finalizing their recommendations. They will do that at their December meeting.”
Kevin Wallenfang, big game ecologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, says everyone is welcome to attend the meetings and give their two cents worth. Final population objective recommendations will be sent to the DNR, after which they will be forwarded to the Natural Resources Board for approval in March.
“So this is an opportunity for the public to attend that meeting, provide feedback in any way that they see fit, and then we also have a survey on the department website where, if you can’t attend the meeting, you can provide your feedback that way.”
