The operator of a Wisconsin Dells amusement park ride has been arrested for causing critical injuries to a young girl.

Charles Carnell of Lake Delton was the operator of the “Terminal Velocity” ride at Lake Delton on July 30th, when 12-year-old Teagan Marti fell 100 feet to the ground on the bungee-style ride.

The 33 year-old Carnell was taken into custody Tuesday night on a charge of First Degree Reckless Injury, after the net meant to catch Marti never left the ground. Police determined her injuries were the result of operator error.

If convicted, Carnell could get 25 years in prison and face up to 100-thousand-dollars in fines.

Marti has had surgery at UW Hospital in Madison, but is expected to be partially paralyzed by injuries received in the fall.

UPDATE: A judge has set a $1,000 cash bond for Carnell. While out, he will also be unable to operate or supervise any rides at Extreme World. He’s also barred from having contact with the victim or her family. The girl’s father was in court during his appearance Wednesday, but left without commenting.
