Food pantries are seeing huge demand during this recession. Karen Tredwell, Executive Director of the Food Pantry of Waukesha County, says her facility is no exception. Tredwell admits the county tends to be “fairly affluent” but adds cost of living his high.

Tredwell says 1,200 new families came needing services last year and the facility is on pace to exceed that number with closer to 1,500 this year.

The profile is also changing. It used to be those with full time jobs who just couldn’t make ends meet. However the pantry is serving more professionals who’ve lost their jobs completely or seen their hours reduced.

Tredwell says food donations have remained consistent.
