A motion filed Thursday in a legislative redistricting challenge calls for state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman to recuse himself from the case.

The lawsuit pending before the Court argues that new legislative district lines should apply in possible recall elections against four Republican state senators. The GOP leaning maps approved earlier this year were drawn with the help of the Michael Best and Friedrich law firm. They do not take effect until November, but Republicans argue they should apply to any recall races in 2012.

In a motion filed with the court, an attorney for recall organizers says Justice Gableman should not take part in deciding the case because Michael Best and Friedrich provided him with free legal services when he was fighting an ethics complaint. The firm has removed itself from the case, but was part of the initial filing.
