As the Assembly takes up a measure that would require a photo ID at the polls, a panel of state lawmakers this morning – at the Wisconsin Women’s Health Policy Summit – warn of the bill’s affect on women.

Rep. Kelda Roys (D-Madison) only stayed for a few minutes, as she was going to meet with party leadership to, “develop a strategy to defeat the voter ID bill.” Her comment drew applause from much of the room.

Rep. Jocasta Zamarripa (D-Milwaukee) urged the Madison crowd to head to the capitol to show opposition to the proposal which is being debated today.

Rep. Sandy Pasche (D-Milwaukee) said the bill disenfranchises senior citizens who don’t have a driver’s license. She says 70-percent of the elderly affected by the legislation are women.

Republicans claim the voter ID proposal will curb election fraud.
