Democratic leaders in the Wisconsin legislature are ready to hear Governor Scott Walker’s State of the State address Tuesday night. State Senator Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) and state Representative Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) said they’ve had little face time with the Republican governor lately.

“I think it was during the Bucks debate for,” Shilling said. “That was the last time he met formally with us,” Barca said, adding that Walker used to meet weekly with leaders of both parties while the legislature, but Barca said that “was terminated” during Walker’s presidential run.

Walker is scheduled to deliver his annual address to a joint session of the legislature Tuesday evening. “It doesn’t appear that there’s any efforts being made by the governor whatsoever, to tackle those issues that people talk about at their kitchen tables,” Barca said.

This will be Walker’s sixth State of the State address and his first since ending his presidential bid. Shilling suggested that Walker is still working to rehabilitate his image with state voters. “The legislature has a favorability rating of 31 percent right now, the governor is at 37-38 percent.”
