The Democratic Party of Wisconsin will file a motion next week to intervene in the GOP’s suit against the Government Accountability Board.
The Governor’s campaign and the state Republican Party claim because the board does not plan to throw out multiple recall signatures from the same person, the move violates the Equal Protection Rights of those who didn’t sign a petition.
State Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate said Governor Walker knows he would lose an election if held today and the suit amounts to an act of desperation. “He feels the only thing he can do to succeed is to criticize the process,” said Tate in a conference call to reporters.
Tate noted Scott Walker won his former post as Milwaukee County Executive through a recall process but is now “trying to reorder the basis of what has been almost a century of law in Wisconsin.”
The Democratic leader also cited Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald’s calling for the dismantling of the GAB. “They (Republicans) seem to be trying to legalize cheating,” said Tate.
