A Rock County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for allegedly abusing a child. Neil Bennett of Milton faces a charge of physical abuse of a child. The alleged incident happened at his home, and involves a 4 year old girl from Beloit. Rock County Chief Deputy Barbara Tillman said the 27 year-old deputy has been placed on administrative leave – and is relatively new to the force. ” He just graduated from the police academy in May of this year, and had been out in the field training program, riding with a training officer,” said Tillman.
Bennett was booked into the Green County jail, for his own safety, according to Tillman. “Also, we want to remove any doubt from the public that he would be shown any favoritism in the jail,” she said.
According to Milton police, the child’s injuries were reportedly visible, but did not require medical attention. Milton police just say Bennet and the girl “know each other”. Tillman said they have to take such accusations very seriously. “It’s a sad day for us. Any allegations of misconduct like this by any of our employees are completely unacceptable.”
