After a review of an officer involved shooting investigation by the State of Wisconsin Department of Justice, Douglas County District Attorney Dan Blank says a Sheriff’s Deputy was justified in using deadly force in a January incident near Gordon. The investigation showed that Lieutenant Chris Hoyt shot Andrew Closson along Highway 53 when Closson pointed a rifle at him. The 21-year old was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth. District Attorney Blank concludes that Hoyt was justified in using deadly force and no criminal charges will be filed. Blank says Hoyt faced a deadly threat and responded in manner consistent with his law enforcement training.
