A Dane County Sheriff’s Department deputy shot and killed a man wanted for holding his former girlfriend at gunpoint. Fitchburg police responded to the ex-girlfriend’s home about 9 p.m. Tuesday. The woman told police her 25-year-old former boyfriend entered her home, held her against her will and then fled.

A deputy searching on foot found the suspect about 11 p.m. in the town of Madison. The deputy shot the man after the suspect attacked him. The man was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified. The sheriff’s deputy was treated at a hospital for head and facial injuries and released.
