After earning a pair of shutouts against a top-10 foe, Wisconsin women’s hockey goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week.

Desbiens was stellar in goal last weekend for the No. 3 Badgers in their sweep of No. 6 Bemidji State, as UW knocked off BSU 3-0 on Friday night and 4-0 on Saturday.

In Friday’s game, Desbiens stopped all 19 shots she faced, including eleven in the final frame to lead the Badgers to victory.  She  turned away all 16 shots on Saturday to earn her NCAA-leading fifth shutout of the year.

Desbiens leads the country in shutouts (5), goals-against average (0.33) and save percentage (.980), and her 1.000 winning percentage is tied for the nation’s lead.

She received her eighth-career WCHA weekly honor, as she was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week three times her freshman season and was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week four times last year.

The Badgers hit the road this weekend on face Minnesota State-Mankato in a Friday-Saturday series.
