Wisconsin has a new law against drunk driving coming on the books Thursday, but a state lawmaker says more needs to be done still.
State Representative Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) also says lawmakers missed an opportunity to do more when, earlier this year, they refused to kick out a colleague who had repeat OWI offenses.
Nass says the Legislature should have sent a message that it’s not acceptable to drink and drive, after state Representative Jeff Wood (I-Chippewa Falls) was arrested three times in one year for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Nass was the driving force behind a motion to expel Wood, although the Assembly ultimately decided in April to censure the troubled lawmaker instead.
