The state Division of Motor Vehicles says it is working to track down several residents who requested special ID cards for voting.

A federal judge says the state must make every effort to find about 50 people who went through the state’s ID petition process (IDPP), after those credentials were returned as undeliverable.

DMV administrator Kristina Boardman said they are already working to comply with the order and find the affected voters. She said the agency is using all of the information is has on file, and is also attempting to contact potential relatives who may have updated contact information.

The order is one of several issued by Judge James Peterson regarding the state’s Voter ID requirement, following complaints the state was giving out wrong or incomplete information about how to get a photo ID without key documents, such as a birth certificate, or because of other issues. Peterson has also asked the state to improve training for staff and the information passed on to voters about the IDPP process.
