A group of teens if facing possible fines and criminal charges, after officials with the Department of Natural Resources caught them planning a night of “thrill killing” wildlife.
DNR Warden Supervisor George Protogere says a warden in Calumet County received a tip last fall that a group was holding a contest to see who could kill the most animals in one night. He says the agency sent several wardens out looking for the group and located a suspect vehicle during the search.
Protogere says that, after questioning the suspects, they found that the group of 12 male teenagers had held similar contests over the past two years. The group primarily chased down and clubbed raccoons, hit deer with their vehicles, and would sometimes shoot the animals.
Protogere says the suspects range in age from 16 to 19. Eight are from Brown County, two from Calumet County, and one each from Outagamie and Manitowoc Counties.
