Gun deer hunters in Wisconsin are keeping with tradition, at least when it comes to waiting to buy their licenses. That’s according to state officials who’ve released the latest license sales on the eve of Saturday’s opening day.
DNR Licensing Bureau Director Diane Brookbank says 331,479 licenses have been sold as of midnight last night. With 50 percent of last year’s 603,913 licenses purchased the week prior to opening day, she expects an “aggressive sales week.”
Brookbank also touts a new program this year, a first time buyer license available at a reduced fee. In addition to those who’ve never purchased a gun deer license, those who haven’t bought one in ten years are also eligible. The state has sold 10,105 of these licenses.
The season runs Saturday and ends November 25.
