As the flood waters recede in many parts of the state, the Department of Natural Resources is moving into recovery mode.

DNR Secretary Matt Frank has been visiting many of the areas hit hard by the recent floods. He says the damage is widespread, but people are already working to clean-up and rebuild. Frank says the rivers have started to recede in some regions of the state, and the focus is shifting from emergency response to recovery.

That work could take some time though. Frank says he's witnessed first hand the widespread damage caused by the flooding, with many cities showing the signs of just how high the water went.

Frank says some problem areas still exist though, and the DNR is watching several dams closely. Despite some dangerous situations with dams threatening to fail, Frank says the majority held up very well.

Many will still need repairs though, which the Secretary is pledging to get done as quickly as possible. He says the DNR will be working with counties to assess the damage and possibly secure federal funding to help pay for the work.
