The Department of Natural Resources is investigating several cases of illegal chemical dumping in western Wisconsin.

Environmental Crimes Investigation Unit administrator Thomas Krsnich says conservation wardens are seeking information from the public about the sites discovered earlier this month in Polk and Burnett Counties, after the agency received several reports about paint and solvents that were dumped on both public and private lands.

Investigators believe the locations are connected and Krsnich says it appears someone went on a “milk run” to get rid of old cans of material. He says those materials should have been recycled, and now the public will have to cover the cost of clean-up which could be thousands of dollars.

Anyone with information is urged to call 1-800-TIP-WDNR (1-800-847-9367).
