You can take part in the unveiling of the Deer Trustee Report today at UW Stevens Point or online through a web stream.
A set of action teams has been working out how to implement the Deer Report over the past several months, and report coordinator Eric Lobner says they’re ready to present their summary to the public. “They’ve gone through seven meetings now and are coming forward with their implementation proposals this Saturday.” The teams have sorted through 62 recommendations in the report on how the 2014 deer season should be run.
The meeting starts at the Dreyfus University Center at UWSP at 10 a.m. Lobner says they’ll be streaming the meeting live on the internet for people to take part starting at 1 p.m. “You’ll be able to click on that link, and you’ll be able see the presentation and be able to ask questions right on the website.”
Lobner says he’s hopeful people will make the trip to the meeting in person as well. “Obviously can still attend in person if they like, but this is a chance for people to attend and see what’s going on without having to travel so far.”
Hunting expert Dr. James Kroll proposed dozens of steps aimed at rebuilding trust between hunters and the WI Dept. of Natural Resources – much of which has been lost in recent years due to inaccurate deer counts and the state’s failed efforts to control chronic wasting disease.
