The low-flying planes that spray for gypsy moths in parts of Wisconsin might become a thing of the past.
Darrell Zastrow is the DNR’s deputy forestry administrator, and he says they’re looking to shut down the program. He says they’re just not seeing the demand, or getting requests, to spray areas.
Zastrow says they would not actually eliminate the program, in case they would need to spray areas in the future. The state Natural Resources Board is planning to hold public hearings on the issue.
The state Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection wants to continue its limited spraying program, in western Wisconsin.
