Pugs and their caretakers from all over the US are descending upon the Milwaukee area for the annual Pug Fest. Organizers expect this event to the biggest so far. Rick Kopaczewski, President of Pug Hugs Inc, says the gathering drew 1,800 humans and more than 1,000 pugs last year. They’re expecting 2,200 humans and 1,200 pugs this time around with advanced tickets sold as far as Texas, California and New York.
Milwaukee Pug Fest is considered to be the largest single breed dog event in the country. The non-profit event also provides tables for pug rescues from all over the US, something needed in the tough economy according to Kopaczewski.

Kopaczewski suggests to potential dog owners rather than buying from a pet store or breeder, look into shelters and animal rescues as many canines are in need of home.
The Sunday event also features The Blessing of the Pugs, veterinary presentations and costume contests for the “lovable lap dogs with a clown face.”
