More than 50,000 people in Wisconsin applied for a concealed carry permit in the first month under the law.

Brian O’Keefe of the state Department of Justice says the agency already issued over 17,000 permits, and they’re working to meet a deadline. He says the law requires DOJ to process all of the applications it receives during the first month, within 45 days.

O’Keefe says they have between 30 and 35 people on the job, and they’re doing all they can to try to meet that mandate.
