Governor Jim Doyle and Congressman Mark Green squared off in their first debate Friday night.
On the state budget, Governor Jim Doyle said he's had to deal with enormous challenges. Green agreed — but maintained he hasn't really addressed the problem, noting that Doyle raided the state's transportation fund. Which Doyle countered was needed, in order to provide more money for education.
Green said state taxes are still too high — and that's hindering economic growth. Doyle countered that addressing the tax burden remains an important goal for his administration.
