Now that the he's signed ethics reform legislation in to law, Governor Jim Doyle wants lawmakers to consider campaign finance changes. The Governor says the current make-up of the legislature should present the right conditions for meaningful campaign finance reforms. Doyle says Democratic control of the Senate and Republican control of the Assembly means lawmakers should be able to more easily develop reforms that find common ground between both parties.

Among the areas Doyle wants to address is ads run by special interest groups. The Governor wants legislation passed that requires groups to register and list their contributors if they run an ad naming a candidate within 60 days of an election.

Doyle also wants lawmakers to reconsider how political campaigns are paid for. He says the issues should be taken up later this session.
