As lawmakers get set to take up his budget plan, Governor Jim Doyle is rallying support behind his BadgerCare Plus initiative. The plan would provide insurance coverage for 98 percent of all Wisconsinites and every child in the state. Doyle says the program would help cover the over 276,000 residents who are currently living without coverage right now.

But the proposal could face resistance in an already tight state budget. Doyle maintains hope that lawmakers will see the value of the program and include it in the budget they approve.

Doyle says the proposal is a major part of his current "Cover the Uninsured Week" initiative, and support for the comprehensive program is being seen across the state. He was joined at a Madison YMCA on Thursday with representatives from nearly 50 organizations who are supporting BadgerCare Plus.
