Governor Jim Doyle downplays reports that a top aide met with a utility company that wanted to buy the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant. The meeting between Dominion Resources and Doyle Chief of Staff Susan Goodwin took place while the company was seeking approval to buy the power plant. Governor Doyle says nothing improper took place. He says it should be expected that the administration meets with those seeking to buy a major power plant in Wisconsin. Doyle says people should be more worried if he didn't meet with officials from Dominion, saying it would be “ludicrous” for him not to speak with them.
The meeting has come under question because the Public Service Commission first rejected the sale, then re-considered and approved it. State and federal investigators are trying to determine if over 43-thousand-dollars in donations to Doyle's re-election campaign played a role in that decision.
