Governor Jim Doyle has long said that he is not seeking a job in Washington with the Obama Administration, but now says that if the president calls, he’ll serve. “Yes I would for this reason. I am a big fan of President Obama. I’ve watched what he’s done to save this country.”

In an interview with the Appleton Post Crescent, the outgoing governor, who also served 12 years as attorney general, says he’s not retiring; he’s transitioning. Doyle says he would like to focus on health care issues, sustainable energy, teaching, and other issues close to his heart.

Doyle says, though, he would certainly help out if Obama asks. “I really want to do everything I can to help him be reelected. I think it’s really important for the United States that that happen. And if they were to call and say this is the way for you to be most helpful I would obviously have to listen to that very carefully.”

That aside, Doyle intends on remaining in Madison and has, in fact, just bought a home. “We like living in Wisconsin; this is where our children are; it’s where our two grandchildren are.” Doyle admits he’s looking forward to getting out of the “security bubble” he lived in for eight years.
