Governor Jim Doyle announces a new task force on campus safety. Speaking at UW Eau Claire Wednesday, Governor Doyle said the task force will "learn from the tragic events at Virginia Tech," and gather the best ideas on campus safety from across the state, and make sure they are shared with all college campuses. Doyle also said he's concerned about a loophole in Wisconsin's gun laws, which require a background check only when buying a handgun from a licensed dealer. There's no waiting period or background or waiting period, something Doyle calls "a big loophole." The campus safety task force will be co-chaired by UW Green Bay Chancellor Bruce Shephard and River Falls Police Chief Roger Leque.
