There was a drone over Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, during Saturday’s Badgers football game with Illinois. Marc Lovicott is the spokesman for UW Police. “There’s three mile radius around Camp Randall, 4,000 feet and lower every game day, and unless someone gets in touch with us or the FAA, that’s a no-no,” Lovicott said.
The drone hovered over the student section between the third and fourth quarters before disappearing and apparently landing nearby. Police are now working with the Federal Aviation Administration in an attempt to track down whoever was piloting the drone.
Drones have yet to become an issue at Lambeau Field, home of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers. The NFL bans them from Lambeau Field, and the surrounding parking lot, on game days. Green Bay Police Capt. Bill Bongle said even if the person flying the drone isn’t trying to hurt someone, electronic interference from cell phones could cause it to crash into a crowd.
