Growing marijuana in national forests is a growing trend throughout the United States, and a special agent for the National Forest Service says they are trying their best to combat it. Rich Glodowski says citizen tips, real surveillance, and National Guard searches all help, but major busts like the one this week do the most to scare off would-be drug growers.
Glodowski says the situation is becoming more dangerous. In recent years, the operations have become larger and more sophisticated. “What we’re seeing though that’s different is the organization the business aspect of this. It’s not just a mom-and-pop operation,” says the agent.
Growers often resort to violence to protect their crop.
