The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a county jail inmate last weekend. Sheriff Robert Hermann said 51-year-old Roosevelt Allen of Zion, Illinois was transported by Manitowoc fire and ambulance from the jail to Holy Family Memorial shortly after 11 Saturday night.
Allen was pronounced dead about half an hour later. Hermann said the investigation indicates that illegal narcotic use prior to incarceration may be a contributing factor.
County Coroner Curtis Green stated the Illinois man had pre-existing medical conditions and the cause of death and toxicology results are pending at this time. An autopsy was conducted Monday and the sheriff indicated additional details will be released when they become available.
