Polk County targets OWI this weekend & next. Sheriff Tim Moore says this has been a "normal" summer as far as drunk driving is concerned. "Obviously, more traffic trough the county, more people visiting the county, so our numbers appear to be up at first glance, but that is typical for the summer months."

Moore says there are alternatives to driving while impaired, including the Safe Ride program offered by the Tavern League. Even so, there continue to be drivers arrested for multiple OWI offenses. "This last week, we had a couple third offenses, a couple of second offenses. That seems to be common," says Moore, adding that there have also been cases of sixth, seventh and even eighth OWI offenses in his county this year.
